Executive Officers for 2021-2022

These are the dedicated volunteers who serve as AWC leaders through January 31, 2022.

President ~ Andrea DiCastro

I arrived in Bangkok with my husband, Michael, January 2019, from New York City and was the previous AWC President in 2020. I have taken the last 2 1/2 years to explore as many new hobbies as possible and use my previous corporate experience in various volunteer projects I have been part of, making my so-called Midlife Sabbatical a lot of fun and fulfilling. Prior to moving to Bangkok, I had a long and demanding career in Technology Product Development, including running my own consulting business for 7 years. I hope to use my previous skills of management, planning and strategy to pick up where Ambreen Miraly has left off to help reinvent and invigorate AWC in a post pandemic world. In our free time, we travel or take some kind of adventure in Bangkok. Exercising at F45 or Base and very long walks are the cornerstone of my week along with my new found joy of quilting and learning much more on Thai culture with the National Museum Volunteer program. I look forward to volunteering more of my time for the remaining 2021 term.

1st Vice President ~ Roma Steffen

My name is Roma Steffen. I have lived in Bangkok for more than 3 years with my military diplomatic family of 5 as part of the US Embassy mission. Prior to Bangkok, I lived in Tampa, Florida. I have lived on four continents (Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America) and countries around the world. This has exposed me to an abundance of cultures, ethnicities, and languages, which have helped in making a seamless transition from country to country. I have also worked with local nationals and other nationalities in every country, which has tremendously helped in understanding the culture of the country I am living in. I enjoy working on my extensive Bucket List which includes traveling, making new experiences in life, facing challenges, and taking on new roles and responsibilities.

2nd Vice President ~ Nikki Khorana

I am Nikki Khorana (Anjali) born and brought up in Mumbai. I got married to a Thai Indian and have been living in Thailand for almost 23 years. I have 2 kids, a daughter who is 20 and son who is 15. I worked for 15 years at my husband's business and now I am a social director in the International Women's Club for 2020. My hobbies are dancing (like Bollywood dance) and I love to learn new things and make new friends.

Secretary ~ Cheryl Histand
I am a recently retired senior high-tech business executive with 30 years of global experience. I moved to Bangkok in May 2017 on a Thai retirement visa, following 18 years living and working based in Hong Kong. In my career I had a successful track record setting global corporate strategies, starting up new businesses in many countries, managing large scale global programs, with expertise in business design, product management, complex project leadership, business planning and application of IT to the business. I was most recently employed as Vice President, IDT Telecom Asia Pacific, and was previously employed by AT&T for 20+ years. I lived in my younger days in New Jersey, hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University, and a Master’s Degree in Systems Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Always a career girl, I have travelled extensively for both business and pleasure and am happily single with no kids.

Treasurer ~ Petro Kuiper

I moved to Bangkok in September 2020 for my husband's work. Yes, I am fresh off the boat so to speak. I've been a sports physiotherapist for most of my life. I suffered physio burn out during my early 40s and decided to do my Masters in Professional Accounting, which I did via distance education. In my previous life I had my own multidisciplinary clinics where I enjoyed doing everything from clinical work to managing the whole business. I sold my last business when our only daughter left the house for university, we decided to become expats and we moved to Singapore. In Singapore I also had my own accounting and physiotherapy business and I indulged in my other passion—travel.

We moved to Manila where I worked as a freelance physio from home and travelled even more. I was treasurer for the British Women's Association of the Philippines for 2 years. I find it difficult to be a trailing spouse and not do something. My travel passion is to explore by bicycle, the best way to interact with the locals and still cover decent distances. I love reading autobiographies of sports people, or ordinary people who have done extraordinary things. I am always up for exploring and taking the tourist route (I don't get lost).

Tannum Sands (a tiny town on the coast) in central Queensland, Australia, is home to me. I know I still sound like a South African, as that is where I was born and grew up.

Assistant Treasurer ~ Kelly Gass

I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and received my BBA in Business Management and MBA in Finance at University of Miami. I worked for Ernst & Young for 13 years doing mostly transactional work / Mergers and Acquisitions in the US, Europe and the Middle East. During my time at E&Y I worked in Miami, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco, Dallas, Las Vegas, London and Dubai. Subsequent to that time I worked for TPG Capital, a worldwide private equity firm where I concentrated on major hospitality and casino gaming transactions. I left TPG and founded San Marco Capital Partners, an investment management firm which I currently serve as President. San Marco is focused on acquisitions of small- to medium-sized land-based projects with a casino gaming component in Asia, the US, Europe and Australia.

I have been based primarily in Asia since 2012, but also reside in Las Vegas, Nevada. I have had a residence in Bangkok since 2016. I travel about 80% of the time for work, but always enjoy traveling to a new place in my free time. I love to walk, enjoying the scenery and watching people.
