AWC Executive Committee who will serve as leaders through January 31, 2023.
Kathy has lived and worked overseas for close to 30 years—Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, South Korea, Indonesia and now Thailand—which has given her true empathy and appreciation for what expat life has to offer. She is currently the General Manager at AGS Thailand, a global relocation and moving services company. Prior to Thailand, she worked 4 years in Jakarta as country manager for AGS. Prior to AGS, she spent 13 years for another relocation group, 8 years in Nice opening up and managing the southern region of France and 5 years in Seoul as country manager.
Kathy holds an MA from NYU. During her tenure in Korea, she served two terms as President of AWC, and was an active participant of FAWCO, attending global meetings. She also served as committee chair on the Professional Women’s committee of AMCHAM Korea. During her tenure in Indonesia, Kathy served two terms as Board of Governor for AMCHAM Indonesia. Wherever she lands, Kathy joins the American community to find social and professional networks.
Korean American-French, Kathy is a polyglot who is Korean born, US educated, and married French. Chicago can be called “hometown” where she grew up, then her studies took her to Paris and Vienna where she gained fluency in French and German. Kathy has a passion for learning languages and is working on her 7th language with Phasaa Thai. Kathy has a 27-year-old son who works in Seattle, and a 25-year-old daughter in London. Her current home would be Nice where she returns for Christmas to gather with friends and family. Kathy is an avid golfer and a yogi and can be found on the golf course or in a yoga studio in her spare time.
Raised in California and following many moves across the US, Pamela now considers Virginia home. She is a graduate of San José State University and the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. A children's librarian by profession, Pamela is passionate about early literacy and education. She speaks French, a tiny bit of Turkish and is working on Thai. She has two wonderful children; her daughter is a nurse and her son is a university student.
Bitten by the travel bug at an early age, Pamela has been fortunate enough to live in France, Switzerland and Turkey before relocating with her husband to Bangkok. She plans to see and do as much as possible in Thailand. She is an avid paddle boarder, spending her summers cruising up and down the Potomac River. Pamela also enjoys yoga and exploring out of the way neighborhoods in search of hidden historical sights and amazing food.
Twelve months ago, I could not have imagined I would be living near Bangkok at this point in my life. I lived the past 40 years in a farming community in Central Washington state where I co-own an agribusiness. I have three adult children and three grandchildren. A slew of life changes, including retirement from my 30-year career in education, along with my passion for travel, helped me decide to join my daughter and family in Thailand in August 2021.
After an acclimation period, I began to search for meaningful activity to fill my days. I have a genuine desire to help others, and the AWC Scholarship program for girls really spoke to my need to make a difference in my retirement years. I have served in numerous volunteer positions in my former community and was eager to find a way I could help as soon as I joined AWC. Quiet by nature yet enthusiastic to serve, club Secretary is a good fit.
I moved to Bangkok in September 2020 for my husband's work. I've been a sports physiotherapist for most of my life. I suffered physio burn out during my early 40s and decided to do my Masters in Professional Accounting, which I did via distance education. In my previous life I had my own multidisciplinary clinics where I enjoyed doing everything from clinical work to managing the whole business. I sold my last business when our only daughter left the house for university, we decided to become expats and we moved to Singapore. In Singapore I also had my own accounting and physiotherapy business and I indulged in my other passion—travel.
We moved to Manila where I worked as a freelance physio from home and travelled even more. I was treasurer for the British Women's Association of the Philippines for 2 years. I find it difficult to be a trailing spouse and not do something. My travel passion is to explore by bicycle, the best way to interact with the locals and still cover decent distances. I love reading autobiographies of sports people, or ordinary people who have done extraordinary things. I am always up for exploring and taking the tourist route (I don't get lost). My newest goal is to visit all the provinces in Thailand. After a year I am at 28, so if I can stay on track, I should be able to cover the rest in the next 2 years.
Tannum Sands (a tiny town on the coast) in central Queensland, Australia, is home to me. I know I still sound like a South African, as that is where I was born and grew up.
