The centerpiece of Bangkok's own Champs Elysees, Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall is an impressive two-story white marble palace which sits at the end of Dusit's long, wide Royal Plaza, a leafy ceremonial boulevard that's often the focus of regal pomp and ceremony during royal celebrations.

Inside is a stunningly beautiful central dome, under which the Royal Throne sits.  Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall is now open to the general public as a museum, with permanent exhibitions from the country’s national artists showcasing the arts and crafts of students at the Chitralada Vocational Centre.

A visit to neighboring Vimanmek Mansion will complete this afternoon Dusit outing. In 1982, on the occasion of the Bicentennial Anniversary of Bangkok, HM Queen Sirikit, requested permission of HM King Rama IX to renovate this elaborate teakwood mansion, a royal residence from the time of King Rama V, for use as a museum commemorating him. Inside are displayed King Rama V's photographs, personal art and handicrafts, as well as a showcase of national heritage objects preserved for future generations. Vimanmek mansion is the world’s largest golden teakwood mansion but with an elaborate architectural style reflecting western influence.
