BUFFALO RACING FESTIVAL

Base fee:
  • Family members and out-of-town visitors shall pay at the member rate.
  • Any woman living in Thailand is eligible to join AWC.
Watch out for the racing, uh... buffalo??
This unique festival provides plenty of photo opportunities to capture an unusual adaptation of the 100-meter dash. "Well worth seeing" is always the conclusion of those who make the effort to travel to Chonburi.
The day's agenda...
  • 7:30am ~ Meet at Emporium Suites lobby.
  • 9:00am ~ Arrive in Chonburi. The races are taken very seriously by the owners of the buffalo. Prizes for the first nose past the finish line guarantee owners go to considerable lengths to ensure their buffalo are in tip-top condition. Clouds of dust rise as these hefty animals pound down the short course at an alarming speed while the crowd roars in support of favorites.
  • Noon ~ Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
  • 1:30pm ~ Visit Ang Sila, a seaside fishing village. Most villagers are skilled in making implements from granite and have a great reputation in the industry of making mortars/pestles and different shapes.
  • 2:30pm ~ Visit Nongmon Market, a well-known market in Chonburi. This market's best buys are different types of dried seafood, Khao Lam or gluttonous rice baked in bamboo, hormok (spicy steamed fish cakes), hoi-jor (deep fried shrimp cakes), sweetened banana and taro chips, and sweetened fruit preserves.
  • 4:30pm ~ Arrive back at Emporium Suites.
Donation: 2,300 baht Member & Guest; 4,600 baht Nonmember (inclusive of roundtrip transfers in private deluxe air-conditioned minivan, lunch at local restaurant, bottled water & cold towels, group travel insurance)

Minimum: 8 persons
