Please plan to attend the Officer Installation at the AWC Kick-Off Event in January 2026.

We invite you to read below to learn about these new leaders of AWC.

AWC Nominating Committee 2025

Louise Hayden and Petro Kuiper

Elected December 2025

President ~ Toni Bain

My husband, Tom, and I embarked on a global journey that eventually brought us to Bangkok after memorable stops in New York, Hong Kong, London, Tokyo, the Bahamas, and my home state of Oklahoma. As a proud mother of four and grandmother of three (and a half!), I’m always eager to share photos and stories of my family.

I joined the American Women’s Club of Thailand in July 2023, just after arriving in Bangkok. Having been part of similar organizations in other countries, I knew the AWC would be a valuable resource—but it has far exceeded my expectations. The friendships, opportunities, and sense of purpose I’ve found here have been extraordinary.

Since joining, I’ve immersed myself in the Club’s many activities—guided walks, volunteering to support those in need, and enjoying everything from fine dining to bowling and Pickleball. This year, I was honored to serve as Co-President, a role that allows me to give back to a community that has given me so much.

I look forward to continuing to work closely as President with our Board and members to further enrich our shared experiences and strengthen the AWC’s positive impact on the Bangkok community.

Vice President ~ Teresa Andersson

I’m Teresa—and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to be considered for Vice President. Serving as Treasurer this past year has given me a deep understanding of the nitty-gritty operations of AWC, from financial details to how each moving part supports our mission. I’ve learned a tremendous amount, and I’m thankful for the trust placed in me. With my background and past experiences, I will do my very best to build greater awareness of AWC within the American and broader expat communities here in Bangkok, and to fully support Toni and the Board in the year ahead.

I’m a mom of two lively kids, and we’re in the midst of our sixth year navigating the vibrant chaos—and charm—of Bangkok. Before moving into community work, I spent over 13 years in corporate finance, though my true passions often pull me into the kitchen experimenting with new recipes, or packing for our next adventure.

I’ve had the privilege of living in Taiwan, the U.S., and Sweden, where I served as the American Women’s Club embassy liaison in Stockholm and later as President of the International Women’s Club. Along the way, I’ve organized charity galas, supported philanthropic initiatives, and helped build communities that bring women together across cultures. I’m excited for the opportunity to continue serving AWC in a larger capacity and to help carry forward the meaningful work we do together.

Secretary ~ Verena Henssler

My roots are in Germany, but my family's presence spans the globe. I grew up in Washington D.C., completed high school in Geneva, Switzerland and graduated from the EHL Hospitality Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland. My life's journey has taken me to Germany, France, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and China before settling in Bangkok with my husband in June 2023. With three adult children currently living in Germany, Belgium and the UK, and my mother in the USA, family is at the core of my global adventures.

Shortly after arriving in Bangkok, I joined AWC, made many friends, and have been on many adventures thanks to this wonderful group of women. Since January 2024, I have been serving as Secretary and board member. I would be pleased to continue in this role for another term.

Treasurer ~ Nima Bertram

I am a native Thai who left the US for school as a teenager. After almost 40 years in the Pacific Northwest, my husband, Jeff, and I started spending more time in Bangkok to be closer to my family. I spent 2020-2024 living in both places. Finally, we retired early and moved to Bangkok to be with my mom. Our 23-year-old daughter, Ellie lives in Washington D.C. She loves to visit Thailand to travel, see family, and eat durian. Our family call both US and Thailand home.

I have a professional background in engineering and aerospace program management. My career gave me an opportunity to work with many different disciplines to bring technology from laboratory prototype to product in service. I served on the electrical engineering department advisory board at my alma matter before moving to Bangkok. I will always have a soft spot for girls who love Legos, science, and math.

These days when I’m not on the tennis court or traveling to watch tennis tournaments, I am one of the activities coordinators for our Club, a role that I’ve enjoyed. It gave me a chance to get to know many of you. In 2026, I will be doing the bookkeeping for the Club and continue to support this vibrant community of women.
